The R. B. Toulouse Scholarship is designed for new and continuing graduate students. The award was established in 2017 by the late Dr. Robert B. Toulouse, who dedicated his career to helping student succeed in pursing their educational dreams. Dr. Toulouse, who spent 40 years at UNT, was provost emeritus, longtime graduate dean and graduate school’s namesake. Now the Toulouse Graduate School is integral to UNT’s status as a Carnegie-ranked Tier One research university.

Award at a Glance

Each year, exemplary graduate students selected could receive up to $1,000 for up to four (4) academic years (up to $4,000) for those pursuing doctoral and MFA degrees, or two (2) years for all other master’s degrees (up to $2,000 total amount).

Eligibility

Standardized test scores and holistic review of admissions information (only fully admitted students will be considered) are taken into consideration when awarding students. Undecided and pending students are ineligible to receive the award.

GPA and Test Score Requirement

The applicant must have a minimum 3.8 grade point average (GPA) for the highest degree attained OR one of the following:

  • GRE scores greater than or equal to 160 in the Verbal section OR greater than or equal to 165 in the Quantitative section.
  • GMAT score greater than or equal to 700
  • McNair Scholar

Award Term

Scholarship term for Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 semesters.

Application Submission

Continuing and fully admitted graduate students that meet the eligibility requirements will need to submit UNT’s Eagle Scholarship Portal to be considered for this scholarship opportunity. Upon submission, applicants will be auto-matched for consideration provided they meet any of the criteria requirements

Selection Process

  1. Completed applications will be reviewed and ranked by 3 senior staff members of The Toulouse Graduate School. Recipient selection is based on academic achievement and admissions data.
  2. The selection committee reserves the right to review the information contained in the admissions application for consideration of scholarship award.  By submitting this application, the student agrees to this term. 
  3. Once the committee reaches consensus to the awarding recipients, all applicants will be notified by email of final selection. 

Requirement

  1. The applicant must be enrolled in and complete a minimum of nine (9) semester credit hours of 5000 or 6000 level courses (applicable to the degree program for which they were admitted to UNT) during both the fall and spring semesters.
  2. Applicant must complete at least 18 graduate credit hours by the end of Spring 2026. Please be aware that summer enrollment does not count towards the 18-hour requirement.
  3. A minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA for every term the applicant receives this scholarship, as well satisfactory performance and progress in the degree program for which the applicant was admitted to UNT.
