Master of Computer Science

“There is no fate but what we make”, these words by Christian Bale as John Conner in Terminator Salvation still lingers in my mind. Although the story is about the virtual world, above words do carry a sense of veracity. I strongly believe that there would not be any change unless we start the change from within.

When I was in my high school, I used to help my fellow juniors in organizing their works and help them to how to use labs and libraries. I was class representative in my bachelors which class representative responsibilities are advising fellow students in the class as well as helping fellow pupils in labs and libraries. I have also participated in many social activities since my high school.

I did my bachelor’s in computer science which mainly deals with building new software to the existing operating system. In which to create a software typically many meetings take place. I did my major project in one of the biggest organizations in India called DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization of India). The project which I have did not only increased my knowledge but also made me know the importance of coordinating with team members. My team people are from various disciples to communicate my views in their terminology is the main task. The software which I have created during my internship was used by many colleges in India. I have collaborated with many colleges to make them understand the uses of my application. I have met many college representatives during my software advertisement. During that I felt that I can convince a group of people with my skills to use my software.

In UNT, from my first semester I was an active volunteer in ISA (Indian Student Association). During this semester we have met many fraternities for collaborations. We did community service in Indian communities.

During summer I did my internship in Jackson Hewitt (New Jersey) during my internship I visited NYU which is a one of the famous universities in New York. I have seen a lot of difference in NYU compared to UNT. The campus was vibrant with event going every week from SGA NYU. They do student awareness programs. I think as I have seen NYU, I can implement the things which I have seen there. I feel that every student should be given help regardless of which community he is from. I feel that GSC should organize more social events where students can mingle with each other.

In conclusion, I would like to say that if I get this position as Vice President of Programming and Outreach. I promise you my best effort with utmost sincerity. Finally, I take this opportunity to thank you for enabling me to express myself.

Arielle Turner

PhD candidate in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement

I am excited to have the opportunity to run for the VP of Programming & Outreach position with GSC due to the array of skills and experience I have that could benefit the UNT community.  Having attended, as well as coordinated professional development and social activities academically, as a student and graduate assistant at UNT, as well as personally, through church and community roles, I am able to bring those skills and experiences to this position to not only continue the great work of GSC, but also improve upon what’s already offered.  This can be done by not only creating addition opportunities, but also by extending and improving the relationships with other organizations within our community and beyond.  If elected, I hope to increase community outreach as well as foster additional ties with other universities organizations and academic programs.
