Copyright and Academic Research: Issues in the Publishing Environment

Copyright law and its relation to publishing is constantly changing. This 1-hour workshop is designed with graduate students in mind, but all are welcome to attend. The workshop will explore issues relevant to academia, review the rights of creators and users, describe the legal exceptions to copyright restrictions and how to apply them in day-to-day work, and discuss new developments in Open Access and Open Science. Finding and Using Public Data in Research

Incorporating data in your thesis or dissertation is one way to provide persuasive evidence of a hypothesis. While there are many data made publicly available for use by researchers, finding them can be a challenge. This 1-hour workshop covers methods of identifying appropriate public data resources, understanding the limitations of public data, and best practices and other considerations for adding data to your scholarly output. The event is designed with graduate students in mind, but all are welcome to attend.
