The Toulouse Graduate School offers a variety of fellowships, scholarships, grants and awards. These can range from $500 a semester to $34,000 a year, including health benefits. Some academic departments offer nationally competitive scholarships as well as travel awards and employment stipends.
Additionally, any UNT scholarships of $1,000 or more per academic year may include an out-of-state tuition waiver, when meeting state requirements.

Toulouse Graduate School Scholarships
- Academic Achievement Scholarship (AAS): This scholarship is available to new doctoral and master's students for the first year of study with a possible one-year renewal. Recipients of this competitive scholarship receive $1,000 per academic year - $500 in the Fall and $500 in the Spring - and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. - R.B. Toulouse Scholarship (R.B.T.S): This scholarship is available to new and continuing doctoral and master's students for the first year of study with a possible one or three-year renewal depending on the degree program. Recipients of this competitive scholarship receive $1,000 per academic year - $500 in the Fall and $500 in the Spring - and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. - McNair Scholar Scholarship: The McNair Scholar Scholarship is designed for new and continuing graduate degree-seeking students. This highly competitive scholarship was created to recruit and retain the very best McNair Scholar graduate students who show promise for conducting important research or creative activity and are committed to full-time enrollment. This scholarship is available to new and continuing doctoral and master's students for the first year of study with a possible one-year renewal for masters students and up to a three-year renewal for doctoral students. Recipients of this competitive scholarship receive $2,000 per academic year - $1,000 in the Fall and $1,000 in the Spring - and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. - Dr. Betty Berkeley Scholarship: This fellowship is open to one outstanding student enrolled in either a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Recipients of this competitive scholarship receive $2,000 per academic year - $1,000 in the Fall and $1,000 in the Spring - and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. - Externally Funded Students Scholarship: This scholarship is available to eligible doctoral and master's students who demonstrate
academic excellence. Recipients receive $1,000 per academic year - $500 in the Fall
and $500 in the Spring - and may be eligible for in-state tuition rates. Students
must provide proof of academic support of $5,000 or more from an institution outside
of UNT to be considered for the award.

Toulouse Graduate School Awards & Travel Award
- Graduate Student Travel Award: Students in good standing who are currently enrolled in master's or doctoral degree programs may apply for these awards to support the costs of their travel to professional meetings during the current academic year. The awards are offered by the Toulouse Graduate School, the Office of Research & Development and the Graduate Student Council. Learn more and apply for consideration.
- Toulouse Dissertation Award: This award recognizes individuals whose dissertation makes a significant contribution
to their field of study. It is open to recent doctoral graduates and doctoral students
who have completed their dissertation for spring graduation.
Learn more about this award. - Tuition Benefit Program (TBP): Provides a tuition supplement for eligible recipients. Because this award is tied
to employment as a Graduate Assistant, hiring departments—not the Toulouse Graduate
School—determine which graduate assistants receive the tuition benefit and the award
amount.
Learn more about this award. - Graduate Research Award: Students in good standing who are currently enrolled in master's or doctoral degree programs may request funds for $500-$1000 to support costs of equipment use, supplies, research-related travel, data-access fees or other expenses directly related to research. University Sponsored Scholarships
- General Academic Scholarships: The Student Financial Aid and Scholarship department on campus offers smaller scholarships
for graduate students. They have an 11-page database of awards listed on the scholarship
application page. Students must reapply for these scholarships each year. Deadlines
vary based on the scholarships.

Scholarship Requirements and Appeal Process
Requirements for continued funding of individual scholarships are outlined in the scholarship offer letters. Failure to comply with these requirements can result in a loss of scholarship funding and the non-resident tuition waiver that is associated with the scholarship (if applicable).
Students nearing completion of their degree program or are otherwise unable to register for the minimum number of graduate credit hours required should complete the Course Load Exception Request Form prior to the first class day of the semester.
Students with other extenuating circumstances that prohibit them from meeting all other stated requirements may file an appeal with the graduate school.
Non-Resident Tuition Waivers
Applicants and students who are awarded a Toulouse Graduate School competitive scholarship and are classified as non-resident/out-of-state may receive in conjunction with the scholarship a "competitive scholarship waiver." This waiver allows a student to pay tuition at the resident/in-state rate. The state of Texas strictly limits how many competitive scholarship waivers may be offered, and the awarding of such waivers is at the sole discretion of the University. Not all of the scholarships we offer will qualify, please read the information for each award carefully.
After residing in the state for 12 consecutive months, a student may apply for reclassification as a resident for tuition purposes provided unequivocal proof of establishment of domicile in Texas.
