Strengths and Styles w/ Dr. Stem

Identify what you do well - when you do well. It’s easy to blame ourselves or blame another, but more often than not the barrier is insufficient communication. In this workshop, we consider environmental/ contextual/ cultural factors that influence an individual’s strengths and style. Before attending participants will take the VIA Character Strengths Survey and join us to learn more about the results.

  • Why is it important to identify your strengths and style?
    • Know your worth
    • Helps when having to describe yourself to others (job interview)
    • Gain a better appreciation for the differences and complexities in others
    • Practice perspective-taking
  • Working with “areas of growth”
    • Practicing acceptance vs. committing to working on perceived weaknesses/inadequacies
  • Emotional Intelligence
    • Recognizing our strengths and weaknesses
    • Practicing empathy for ourselves and others

YOU CAN DO IT! Let's do it together!

UNT alum Dr. Wiley Stem with Counseling & Testing Services is offering a virtual support group to UNT graduate students.  The group, titled "Thriving in Graduate School," is a group space designed for students to give and receive support on topics such as stress management, imposter syndrome, and communication/conflict, among other topics. The group meets virtually weekly Fridays from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. If you think you'd benefit from a space to share your experiences and get perspective from fellow graduate students, join us! To join, please call (940) 565-2741 or email counselingandtestingservices@unt.edu for details.
