Wednesday, March 8, 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm:

3:30 pm to 5:00 pm: Identifying Extramural Funding Opportunities and Planning Applications

Katie Herring presents on Pivot; Denise Amy Baxter introduces GrantFinder and the importance of relevant professional organizations. Students will identify five possible opportunities; these will be the subject of the next day’s work. The Grad Writers will also be in attendance. 

Thursday, March 9, 11:30 am to 5:00 pm:

11:30 am to 1:00 pm: Assessing Extramural Opportunities: Is It a Match?

You have some external funding opportunities identified; are they good matches? Students will bring in their identified opportunities and an initial pitch for the match. Engage in conversations with facilitators and peers to assess extramural funding opportunities and next steps.

Facilitators include:

  • Denise Amy Baxter, Professor of Art History; Associate Dean, Toulouse Graduate School

  • Brenda L. Barrio, Associate Professor of Special Education; Assistant Department Chair, Department of Educational Psychology

  • Ateka Contractor, Associate Professor of Psychology        

  • Michael Gibson, Professor of Design

  • Tandra Tyler-Wood, Professor of Learning Technologies

1:20 pm to 2:45 pm: Extramural Funding Panel

Faculty will share stories of their extramural experiences, including how funding shaped their career trajectory, and speak to graduate student opportunities, followed by Q&A.

Panelists include:

  • Amy Anderson, Assistant Professor of Educational Psychology

  • Kris Chesky, Professor of Instrumental Studies

  • Michael Gibson, Professor of Design

  • Joseph Oppong, Professor of Geography; Associate Vice Provost, Toulouse Graduate School

  • Tandra Tyler-Wood, Professor of Learning Technologies

3:00 pm to 4:30 pm: Crafting a Winning Proposal

Jim Duban, Professor of English and Director of the Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships and Joseph Oppong, Professor of Geography and Associate Vice Provost of the Toulouse Graduate School, will present a clinic on effective proposal writing. The Grad Writers will also be in attendance.
